What is the difference between church adoption, church fostering, and church revitalization? Thom and Sam have a helpful and interesting discussion on new trends taking place in North American congregations.
Highlights:
- Church adoption: a church comes into the family.
- Church fostering: a church is brought into the family for the short term.
- Church revitalization: a church regains health internally.
Other highlights:
- The term of adoption has been helpful and provided context for the new relationship.
- Church fostering may lead to church adoption, but the goal should be to help and provide leadership for a season.
- There is no loss in church fostering. It is simply called ministry.
- The unintended by-product of church fostering, adoption, and revitalization is the creation of a strong leadership pipeline.

We are a church of 45 ages between 18 to 50
We have experienced a decline of a offended split of about 25 people. It has effected us but we are spiritually healthy and working on rebuilding. We are sharing a baptist building for the past 13 yrs. The baptist own the building It’s old needs lots of work they are members of 8 total. A larger church has decided to come in and take over the property. Sandals church in Riverside CA. We have been asked to vacate by the end of Feb 2020. I feel as the pastor of our church so dishonored by this move. It’s like we are being bullied out of the Church and city that we have sown and have relationship with, is this what Revitalization replanting is about. We have 6 weeks to move out so the mega church can come in and swallow. If they came in a met with all the churches in the city that would be great. It’s like gentrification in old cities. We are a old membership church. We are pressing onto thriving and hit a bump that knocked us down, trying to get up we have been kicked when we are down. I don’t believe that’s what the Lord is like. Pray for us Praise Chapel Azusa CA thank you
