Leadership skills and knowing who you are as a leader are important as you lead a revitalization. Today we discuss the 12 types of leaders in a revitalization.

    In a secular position, I had opportunity to know 2 things about 300 financially successful people: how much they were earning, what they were like as a person. What I came away with from that experience was that in perhaps 50% of the cases, what they were sort of like did not correlate with what you would think a $1-100 mil./yr. plus person would have to be like to achieve that level of “value”. Those people just ended up in those roles, and some how made it work. So, as Pastors in congregations on the move, it’s important to accept the role and trust that God knows you and is happy you’re present.

    I have to confess I just don’t understand. Maybe it’s the urban mentality where you just expect to pay more for everything or something like that. I just listened to the revitalize podcast and heard about the revitalize profile and thought I’d check it out. So after reading about the bundle and all the great tools, etc. I scroll to the payment section and bam! $500 bucks! I’m an AM in a agricultural county in SW Georgia. We have 38 churches in our assoc. and yes, at least 75% of them are in need of revitalization. But I can’t think of one of those pastors who has an extra $500 to spend on anything, let alone another “tool” that comes with no guarantees. And I can’t imagine even one of those churches saying “Sure thing pastor, we’ll give you $500 to get that bundle if you think it will help.” Obviously with every endeavor there are costs involved but is there ever a time when we say we’re going to do this thing at cost because it has the potential to truly strengthen our pastors, our churches and advance the Kingdom. This must not be one of those times.

      First, contact us at answers@churchanswers.com. I want every church in your association to have the Bundle. I will find a way to subsidize the cost.

      Second, we ARE providing the Bundle at cost. It includes a leadership tool, a demographic study, a psychographic study, a Church Health Report, and a personal and qualified coach to walk through it with the pastor. Those who have utilized it have been amazed at and grateful for what they receive for $500. You are right. No tool is guaranteed, but it is the best we know and have to offer.

      But I will find a way to get it to your churches even at a loss for us. I am counting on you to contact us. You have called us out publicly. Please give us the courtesy of working with you.

    There is a better way to address this issue. Contact Church Answers directly. I pastor a non-denominational church that has about 35 people in worship. We decided to use the Revitalize Bundle because we thought it was an incredible opportunity at the price offered. But when we contacted them directly, they said they wanted to help us even more.

    I am not certain, but it sounds like you are Southern Baptist. If so, I am amazed at all the resources your churches have through their states and national offices. We are on our own. I am so grateful for Church Answers. I have no room to complain, just to be thankful.

    How could the 12 leadership personalities for revitalization be used by a pastoral search committee in a church that is need of revitalization that is searching for a new pastor? We will be developing the job description of our future pastor with revitalization as a key focus area.

          Right now, only one report per user. But you bring up a good point. If search committees start using the RP, we need to discount the price to allow for multiple candidates. We will work on it.

    The DISC personality inventory, with its several I quadrant personality types, seems similar–with emphasis on people-over-projects and affecting the environment rather than only being affected by it.

    . . . And this reminder:

    (Management x Leadership x Administration) > Resistance = Change

    Leadership x 0 x 0 = 0; 0 is not greater than Resistance–and Resistance stops Change.

    Leadership gets almost all the air time these days–and for lack of a better term, folks in charge are called “leaders”–but it is only one of three factors essential for producing change (a self-sustaining new condition). Without the management function also, no accurate diagnosis/prognosis of the cause of dissatisfaction is possible; without the administration function, treatment of the cause of dissatisfaction is a guessing-game. In ERs, patients want to experience all three in order to be well/whole again–management (diagnosis/prognosis), leadership (prescription of therapy/ies), AND administration (treatment with the therapy/ies prescribed); for ER staffers to leave out even one of these functions is to risk accusations of malpractice. For restoring the organizational health of nonprofits and for-profits, the process is the same. Managers primarily diagnose problems; leaders primarily prescribe solutions; administrators primarily treat problems diagnosed with solutions prescribed and in such a way that resistance is overcome and change occurs. Not easy, but simple–and the way history records change taking place.

    My name is James McLeod. I am working on my Ph.D. in Leadership dissertation prospectus at Dallas Baptist University. Therefore, I am trying to access as much quantitative data as I can in two areas:
    1) Church Revitalization
    2) Biblical Servant Leadership (Which I recognize would involve more qualitative data)

    My calling, having pastored local churches since 1991, is now leading me into researching, writing, consulting, and coaching in the areas of organizational & ministry leadership and revitalization. My dissertation is specifically on church revitalization and biblical servant leadership from a humanities (theological/historical) perspective.

    Any information toward obtaining published statistical data in these two areas would be greatly appreciated.
