- The economics of urban church planting often do not work for the “launch large” model.

Thom,
I listened to Jimmy give a talk at a conferences in Indy in 2012. By 2013 our church adopted “A Mutlivocational Model of Ministry.” The benefits have been exponential:
-Church paid off $30,000 worth of debt in 12 months
-Church was able to $50,000 worth of improvements since 2013
-I was able to make more money in the market place with better benefits
-my identity wasn’t wrapped up in successes or losses from Sunday to Sunday
-The Church took on the idea: “Membership equals Partnership.”
It’s not for everyone, but it has worked well for us. Jimmy planted a seed that has reaped a great harvest.
I love that story, Tobby. Thank you!
Oh, and the church has never been a better place financially.
More Churches need to give it a shot.
Tobby, where can i obtain a copy of the Indy talk you mentioned?
Thanks!
I am doing interim and transitional pastoring. The churches I work with want to grow but are stuck with the traditionatraditional, ” everything revolves around our church building “. Even though Economic downturn has taken previously population resources away and they have current members coming from other communities, they refuse to expand their outreach to their member’s home locations. Several of these members have experience in preaching and witnessing. Is there resources the could assist in broading the Vision to be a church that will reach beyond immediate physical location.
Jimmy, What a rich and powerful testimony for reaching the people of So. Florida. I am looking forward to hearing the next five episodes that will go deeper into the Marketplace Bi-vocational Ministry model. In particular, I am curious to know what the longer-term vision for this type of ministry model will be. Such as, what is the strategic plan for the example church mentioned in this episode (# 294) that went from 40-300 in attendance in the small 4,000 sq. ft. facility. Will the existing leadership team replicate the model with another launch while establishing that there will only be the 300 maintaining the existing local body and raise up others (lay and leaders) from within the body to lead it. Or will the existing leaders raise up new leaders to deploy the model launching another site in an unreached community of So. Florida? Or will they look for a larger facility and continue to grow that local body of believers?
God has been speaking to my heart about this type of model throughout seminary and after graduating last month, I am looking to pair my 31-year business career with a ministry model like this but I am not sure how or where to even pursue this calling. Would you suggest seeking NAMB or finding a vision-minded church like Family Church?
Thank you, so I can see the application of my own fellowship meeting from this afternoooon!
