Pastors’ Kids – Rainer on Leadership #040

Podcast Episode #040

SUBSCRIBE: iTunes • RSS • Stitcher • TuneIn Radio • Google Play

The most popular post I’ve ever had on this site was on pastors’ kids. It was mildly popular when it was written back in the summer of 2013. It was even a top ten post for 2013, but then went viral nearly six months after it originally debuted when I posted my list of top posts of the year this past December.

The feedback has been quite overwhelming. Commenters shared both their pain and delight from their personal experiences as a pastor’s kid. In this week’s episode, Jonathan and I discuss that original post and what we’ve learned as a result thanks to the commenters.

Again, another podcast I listened to while focusing on being healthy and homemade and made jam 🙂

I LOVED this podcast. My 5 children, under the age of 16, are pastor’s kids.

I am sensitive to their needs, their well-being, their reactions to church, and their faith formation. This podcast reaffirmed my desire to ensure that their experience of church is healthy and unencumbered by the “politics” of church. Thankfully, my children have not yet encountered the negative experiences mentioned although we do need to monitor the way my husband and I speak of issues that pop up from time to time.

My only hope is that this information reaches the ears of congregant members. Safeguard children, regardless of vocation. Be the people called to be when you speak your baptismal/dedication vows. Raise ALL children in the eyes of the Lord. Do not set certain ones to be “special” or “apart”.
