Jonathan and I explore some personal stories and some reader submissions from a recent post on preaching distractions. We talk about plumbing issues, flying shoes, ripped pants, overzealous janitors, and more. We also cover how to recover when something like this happens, and how best to prevent them from happening. While the ministry of a pastor should be taken very seriously, we shouldn’t take ourselves too seriously.
You’ll also learn what the phrase “Turn on Jesus” means.

Recently whilst preaching I was interupted by the sounds of a small but persistent voice. I couldn’t work out where the noise was coming from. Then a large lady on the front row put her hand down her top, rumbled around inside her bra and pull out her mobile phone. She engaged me to apologize as she had somehow managed to answer her ringing phone with her breast without realising. It was her husbands voice from her phone, I could hear. She promotly end the call and placed the phone back where it seemed to live.
Turn on Jesus!! I love it!
I preach at a Pentecostal church so I’m kind of used to it being loud. It’s uncommon for someone to be reading a Scripture, then some heavy set lady keels over and starts speaking in tongues…while two guys and one usher are trying to hold her up. But turn on Jesus is a new one. I might actually do that while preaching next time…people will think I got a new revelation from God lol!
Great podcast!
